Dr. S. R. Ganesh is the Director of Research at Kalinga Foundation Agumbe, a wildlife research and higher education institute. He holds a doctorate specialising in Wildlife Biology, with research focused on systematic herpetology, species taxonomy, biogeography, and conservation assessment.

His work has contributed to documenting lesser-explored biomes, refining species definitions, mapping contemporary distribution patterns, and assessing the conservation status of endangered and poorly known species of southern India’s herpetofauna. His research and conservation efforts have also involved engaging with policymakers and stakeholders, contributing to the recognition and establishment of protected areas, including sanctuaries, national parks, and tiger reserves.

At the Centre for Eastern Ghats Studies (CEGS), Dr. Ganesh provides academic consultancy and advises research projects in herpetology, with particular emphasis on the Eastern Ghats, an ecoregion where he has conducted extensive research for over a decade. He also works with the CEGS team on IUCN Red List assessments and the preparation of books and monographs on diverse groups of Indian herpetofauna.

In addition, Dr. Ganesh contributes to the academic development of CEGS, advising on the formalisation of its academic framework and institutional collaborations to facilitate opportunities for higher education and research training in the biological sciences.
