Native Forest Nursery
The Eastern Ghats Native Forest Nursery serves as the foundation of our ecological restoration efforts by propagating indigenous tree, shrub, climber, and grass species native to the dry deciduous forests of Peninsular India. Rather than maximizing the number of saplings produced, the nursery focuses on preserving local genetic diversity by collecting seeds from naturally occurring populations across different landscapes. Each species is propagated based on its ecological role, ensuring that restoration supports the recovery of entire forest communities rather than individual tree species. The nursery also functions as a living repository for native flora, supporting research, education, habitat restoration, and long-term conservation planning.
The unique niches of the Dry Deciduous Forests of Krishnagiri, where our campus lies
The dry deciduous forests of the Eastern Ghats are dynamic ecosystems shaped by seasonal rainfall, prolonged dry periods, rocky terrain, and varied elevations. Within these forests, every habitat—from rocky outcrops and hill slopes to seasonal streams, grasslands, bamboo thickets, and forest edges—provides specialized ecological niches for different plants, insects, reptiles, birds, and mammals. These diverse microhabitats support complex interactions between species, allowing biodiversity to thrive even in landscapes that may appear sparse during the dry season. Conserving this habitat diversity is essential for maintaining the ecological resilience of the Eastern Ghats.
